Turkish border guards kill asylum seeker in Syria’s Idlib
IDLIB, Syria (North Press) – One person was killed and another injured on Sunday by Turkish border guards’ gunfire while attempting to cross the Syrian-Turkish border in northwestern Idlib, northwest Syria.
A local source told North Press that the “Turkish border guards opened fire on a group of Syrians, including women, as they attempted to cross the Syrian-Turkish border near the village of Azmarin in the countryside of Salqin, northwest of Idlib.”
The source added that the shooting resulted in the killing of Hassan al-Hourriyah, a young man from the village of Abdita in the countryside of Idlib, and another person sustained injuries and was taken to a hospital in Salqin for treatment.
The source mentioned that al-Hourriyah had been deported from Turkish territory to Idlib about two months ago and was attempting to cross the border to return to his family that is still in Turkey.
On Mar. 6, the Turkish border guards assaulted 35 individuals, including women, while attempting to cross the Syrian-Turkish border near the town of Jindires, north of Aleppo, northwest Syria.
