ISIS militants kill 5 government soldiers in Deir ez-Zor
DEIR EZ-ZOR, Syria (North Press) – Militants of the Islamic State group (ISIS) killed on Saturday at dawn five soldiers of the government forces including a lieutenant in Deir ez-Zor Governorate in eastern Syria.
The militants launched an attack on two headquarters and a checkpoint of the government forces in the village of al-Dwair to the east of Deir ez-Zor using machine guns and shells, a military source of the government forces said.
The source added that clashes erupted between the two parties for more than an hour, and they resulted in the killing of five government soldiers, including lieutenant Raed Nassif.
Deir ez-Zor Governorate usually witnesses attacks launched by ISIS militants who are heavily present in the Syrian Desert.
The ISIS militants managed to seize the arms from the headquarters after the remaining government soldiers retreated due to the intense confrontation.
