7.5 million children in Syria need humanitarian aid – UNICEF
QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – On the 13th anniversary of the Syrian conflict, the United Nations International Children’s Emergency Fund (UNICEF) said on Friday almost 7.5 million children in Syria would need humanitarian assistance in 2024.
This is due to the worsening economic crisis, mass displacement, and devastated public infrastructure, according to the UNICEF.
In a statement, the UNICEF indicated that 13 years of the Syrian crisis have upended the lives of children and their families across the country.
It pointed out that the 13 years of war have left “15.3 million people in need of humanitarian assistance, including 7 million children.”
“Of the country’s 6.8 million internally displaced people, 5.3 million require humanitarian support.”
The UNICEF mentioned that it required $401.7 million to provide an essential lifeline to 8.5 million people, including 5.4 million children in Syria, adding that “this funding requirement is lower than that of the revised 2023 appeal due to prioritization of needs and streamlined earthquake and cholera-related responses adapted to the evolving situation.”
