Jordan foils drug smuggling attempt on border with Syria
QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – Jordanian authorities announced on Monday thwarting an operation of trafficking large amounts of drugs at Jaber border crossing with Syria.
The Jordan Customs Department (JCD) and the Public Security Directorate announced that they thwarted an attempt to smuggle a large amount of narcotic pills at the Jaber border crossing, on the northern borders with Syria.
The Jordanian News Agency, Petra, cited Brig. Gen. Saed Ashour, the spokesperson for JCD, stating that the security personnel at the crossing foiled the operation after becoming suspicious of two trucks.
The authorities discovered the narcotics pills concealed within tables and baby beds, as reported by Petra.
The authorities at the crossing confiscated 237,000 narcotic pills and arrested the involved individuals, according to the spokesperson.
Jordan launches a war against drug trafficking to its territory and accuses regional forces of involving in the trafficking, as it targeted smugglers in Syria several times. Jordan previously said that the smugglers are affiliated with Iran.
On Feb.27, The Jordanian authorities foiled an attempt to smuggle one and a half million narcotic pills from Syria.
