Iran’s IRGC leads wide-scale inspection campaign in Syria’s Deir ez-Zor
DEIR EZ-ZOR, Syria (North Press) – Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) has been leading a wide-scale campaign to inspect the cell phones of civilians in Deir ez-Zor Governorate, eastern Syria, since an Israeli targeting of IRGC leaders in the coastal city of Baniyas, western Syria.
A military source in Deir ez-Zor told North Press that the IRGC ordered to inspect the cell phones of civilians in the streets of the town of al-Mayadin, east of Deir ez-Zor.
On March 1, Israeli airstrikes on Iranian positions in Baniyas resulted in the killing of Iranian-backed officers and two militants of Hezbollah.
The source added that inspection orders were given to the civilian and military police of the Syrian government forces, Iran’s Quds Force, and the government’s Public Security Police, noting that the personnel are disguised in civilian clothing and randomly stop civilians in the streets.
The source indicated that the campaign started on Mar. 2, and was intensified on Monday.
The source mentioned that militants of the National Defense Forces (NDF) of the government are discontent with the campaign, amid a state of tension in the region.
