More than 6000 Syrian doctors work in Germany – Funke
QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – Syrians make up the largest number of foreign doctors working in Germany over the past decade, with a 6,120 physicians, according to a media report.
This number is revealed in a report by the Funke media group, citing the medical statistics of the German Medical Association.
The report said that the number of doctors working in Germany without a German passport reached a significant total of 63,763 as of December 31, 2023.
It highlighted that most doctors without a German passport come from EU countries or other European countries as well as from countries in the Middle East.
Syria topped the list with 6,120 physicians, followed by Romania 4,668, Austria 2,993, Greece 2,943, Russia 2,941, and Turkey 2,628.
Jurgen Hoffart, the managing director of the Rhineland-Palatinate State Medical Association told the Funke that inadequate language proficiency is already a significant issue and will worsen as the number of foreign doctors lacking sufficient German language skills increases in the coming years.
