People protest against HTS in NW Syria

IDLIB, Syria (North Press) – People in Idlib and Aleppo governorates, northwestern Syria, took to the streets on Friday to protest against Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (HTS, formerly al-Nusra Front) and it leader Abu Muhammad al-Julani.

Hundreds of people participated in anti-HTS protests in the cities of Idlib and Binnish, and the city of al-Atarib in the west of Aleppo, according to North Press correspondent.

The protesters held signs that demanded the HTS to leave and the removal of al-Julani. Additionally, they called for the release of detainees held in HTS prisons.

On Feb. 28, the General Security Service (GSS) affiliated with the HTS arrested individuals in Idlib and its countryside under charges of incitement against the HTS. This occurred just 24 hours after protesters took to the streets and demanded the removal of Abu Muhammad al-Julani, HTS’ leader.

The scale of protests is considered the first of its kind against the HTS and its leader.
