Syrian Free Army appoints new leader in Syria’s al-Tanf base
DAMSCUS (North Press ) – On Thursday, the Syrian Free Army (formerly Maghaweir al-Thowra) announced the appointment of a new leader, replacing Muhammad Farid al-Qasim, through a statement published on its official website at al-Tanf military base, east of Homs Governorate, central Syria, which is operated by the U.S. in Syria.
The Syrian Free Army published on its official website pictures showing the appointment of Salem Turki al-Antri as a new leader of the faction.
On Sep. 26, 2022, the U.S.-led Global coalition decided to appoint Muhammad al-Qasim as the new leader of the Syrian Free Army in Syria, replacing Mahand al-Tala, the former leader of the faction. After that, the faction changed its name on all its social media accounts from (Maghaweir al-Thowra) to the Free Syrian Army.
The Syrian Free Army consists of hundreds of soldiers, including defected officers and personnel from the Syrian government forces, as well as, civilians who joined them. Their estimated number is 500 fighters who receive advanced training by the U.S.-led Global Coalition to Defeat Islamic State (ISIS).
The Syrian Free Army stated on its official Facebook page that they are excited about the new opportunities that al-Antari will bring to the Syrian Free Army and the leadership he will provide.
