HTS arrests people for protesting against leader in Syria’s Idlib
IDLIB, Syria (North Press) – Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (HTS, formerly al-Nusra Front) raided on Wednesday several neighborhoods in Idlib and its countryside, northwestern Syria, arresting several individuals.
The General Security Service (GSS) affiliated with the HTS arrested individuals under charges of incitement against the HTS. This occurred just 24 hours after protesters took to the streets and demanded the removal of Abu Muhammad al-Julani, HTS’ leader.
A source in the GSS said the raids occurred in al-Thalathin Street, Jabara, Sheikh Thulth and al-Mablit neighborhoods in the city center of Idlib, resulting in the arrest of over 20 individuals, including two women.
The arrests were not limited to the city center, as nine individuals in the city of Ariha in the south of Idlib were also detained under the same charges as protests extended to other areas.
Over the past days, Idlib has witnessed protests against al-Julani. Protesters have gathered at al-Sa’a Square in Idlib, demanding to reveal the fate of those forcibly detained and disappeared in HTS prisons.
