Jordan foils drug smuggling attempts from neighboring country
DAMASCUS, Syria (North Press) – The Jordanian authorities announced on Tuesday thwarting two attempts of smuggling drugs they said were coming from a neighboring country.
Jordan’s Public Security Directorate said it had foiled an attempt to smuggle one and a half million narcotic pills from a neighboring country, without specifying, hidden in secret places inside a shipping vehicle.
The Jordanian forces arrested six people involved in the smuggling operation, according to the Directorate.
The Directorate also pointed out their forces arrested a person who tried to smuggle two kilograms of methamphetamine, in addition to foiling an attempt to smuggle 70,000 narcotic pills and arresting the person involved at the Jaber border crossing with Syria.
On Feb. 18, the Jordanian army announced the killing of five smugglers and the injury of four others during clashes that occurred after thwarting a drug smuggling operation originating from Syria.
Jordan has targeted drug smugglers in Syria several times as authorities frequently state that drug and arms smuggling from Syria undermines its national security.
