Iran monopolizes batteries industry, distribution in Syria

ALEPPO, Syria (North Press) – The Syrian government decision to stop importing batteries followed an agreement with an Iranian company to recycle the only batteries factory in Syria, a government source working in a branch of Ministry of Industry said on Sunday.

The agreement came to enhance economic collaboration between the two countries, according to the source.

The Syrian Company for Batteries, in Aleppo countryside, northwest Syria, is the only factory for batteries manufacturing in the country.

On Saturday, the Economy Committee, affiliated with the government, halted importing all types of batteries until further notice.

Hussein Arnous, Prime Minister of Syria, approved the proposal of the Ministry of Industry upon the request of some batteries companies to protect their products via halting importing or lifting of subsidies on imported batteries.

The factory’s production has been limited for eight years, as it depends on workers and primitive production means after being destroyed during battles in the region, the source told North Press.

An Iranian company will rehabilitate the factory as a partner and get 49 percent of production benefits, according to the source.

The government decision allows importing batteries types that will not be produced in the factory.
