Syrian government raises prices of fuel products amid economic crisis

DAMASCUS, Syria (North Press) – The Syrian Ministry of Internal Trade and Consumer Protection increased on Monday the price of Octane 90 and Octane 95 gasoline, and diesel for the third time since the beginning of the year.

The Ministry announced on its official account increasing the price of Octane 90 gasoline from 10,000 Syrian pounds (SYP, which equals about $0,66) to 11,000 (about $0,77) per liter.

Additionally, the Ministry raised the price of Octane 95 gasoline from 12,680 SYP ($0,84) to 14,110 SYP ($0,93) per liter.

Meanwhile, the price of a liter of diesel in the black market increased from 11,675 SYP ($0,77) to 12,290  ($0,81).

The Syrian government has raised fuel prices multiple times during 2023 in government-held areas amid severe fuel shortages and soaring prices of commodities and food products.

Syria has been experiencing a severe economic crisis for several years. The inflation rate in Syria has skyrocketed due to a combination of factors, including the ongoing civil war, economic sanctions, and a shortage of essential goods.

The high inflation rate in Syria has had a devastating impact on the country’s population, with many struggling to afford essential necessities such as food, housing, and healthcare. The ongoing conflict in Syria, coupled with the economic crisis, has led to a humanitarian catastrophe, with millions of Syrians displaced and in need of aid.
