5 Iranian-backed militiamen killed in ISIS attack in Syria’s desert
DEIR EZ-ZOR, Syria (North Press) – Five militants of an Iranian-backed militia were killed on Thursday evening and others were injured in an attack by the Islamic State group (ISIS) in the Syrian Desert.
A source of the Iranian-backed Quds Force militia said the ISIS militants attacked posts of the Syrian government forces and Iranian-backed militias in the vicinity of the city of Palmyra, Syria’s desert. The militants used machine guns and RPG-7, the source added.
After that, the ISIS militants launched another attack on a convoy of the Quds Force and Liwa Fatemiyoun, killing five of them and injuring others, according to the source.
ISIS keeps launching attacks against the government forces and Iranian-backed militias in the Syrian Desert.
The Syrian Desert covers nearly half of Syria and extends over the governorates of Deir ez-Zor, Raqqa, Aleppo, Homs, Hama, Rif Dimashq, Suwayda, and Palmyra.
The Iranian-backed militias and the government forces control large areas of the Syrian Desert which witness intensive attacks by ISIS sleeper cells.
