Iraq reveals number of repatriated families from Syria’s Hawl Camp

DAMASCUS, Syria (North Press) – Iraqi National Security Advisor, Qasim al-Araji, stated on Tuesday that 1,924 Iraqi families linked to the Islamic State (ISIS) have been repatriated from Hawl Camp in Hasakah Governorate, northeastern Syria.

Out of these families, Al-Araji said, 1,200 families have been repatriated to their hometowns within Iraq.

In December 2023, 150 Iraqi families were repatriated from Hawl Camp, marking the 13th group to depart to the al-Jada’a Camp in Iraq’s Mosul before being sent into their hometowns.

The Iraqi security official added that during his participation in the activities of the International Day for the Prevention of Violent Extremism as and when Conducive to Terrorism, in New York, that the number of repatriated Iraqis exceeds 7,556.

He also stated that the Iraqi government is committed to repatriating all Iraqi refugees to their hometowns in 2024.
