8 government soldiers killed in ISIS attacks in Syrian Desert
DEIR EZ-ZOR, Syria (North Press) – Eight soldiers of the Syrian government forces were killed on Tuesday evening and others were wounded in two attacks launched by the Islamic State group (ISIS) in the Syrian Desert.
A source of the government forces told North Press that ISIS militants launched a fierce attack on three posts and a checkpoint of the government forces at the entrance of the town of al-Sukhnah in the east of the city of Homs, the Syrian Desert.
The source added that the attack led to the killing of seven soldiers of the government forces and the injury of five others.
The ISIS militants launched another attack on a post of the government forces in the village of al-Masrab, west of Deir ez-Zor.
The attack resulted in the killing of a soldier called Hayel al-Sarrawi, according to the source.
ISIS militants keep launching attacks against the government forces and Iranian-backed militias in the Syrian Desert.
The Syrian Desert covers nearly half of Syria and extends over the governorates of Deir ez-Zor, Raqqa, Aleppo, Homs, Hama, Rif Dimashq, Suwayda, and Palmyra.
The Iranian-backed militias and the government forces control large areas of the Syrian Desert which witness intensive attacks by ISIS sleeper cells.
