IRGC, government arrest Syrians within Iran-backed militias in Deir ez-Zor
DEIR EZ-ZOR, Syria (North Press) – Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) and the Syrian government forces arrested days earlier Syrian militants operating within Iranian-backed militias in Deir ez-Zor Governorate, eastern Syria.
A source in the Military Intelligence of the government forces told North Press that over 100 Syrians working with the militias were arrested for “security reasons” in the area that extends from the city of Deir ez-Zor all the way to the towns of al-Mayadin and al-Asharah in the southeast of the city.
The arrests began after U.S. forces launched a series of airstrikes on warehouses and posts of Iranian-backed militias in response to the killing of three American soldiers in Tower 22 base in Jordan.
The source pointed out intense security measures are being implemented in the area for fear of information about Iranian movement being leaked.
He also added that patrols of the government forces are doing random inspections in the area for the past days.
