Government-linked group kills 5 SDF fighters in Syria’s Deir ez-Zor

DEIR EZ-ZOR, Syria (North Press) – A leader in the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) said on Saturday an armed group affiliated with the Syrian government forces attacked one of their posts in Deir ez-Zor Governorate, eastern Syria, killing SDF fighters.

The SDF leader, who preferred to remain unnamed, told North Press that the armed group infiltrated from areas west of the Euphrates River, controlled by the government forces and Iranian-backed militias, to the town of Shaafah in the east of Deir ez-Zor in areas held by the SDF.

After the armed group infiltrated a military post of the SDF on the Euphrates River in Shaafah, clashes erupted and resulted in the killing of five SDF fighter, whereas another fighter is still missing, according to the SDF leader.

He pointed out that the same military post witnessed a similar attack a month earlier where three SDF fighters were killed.
