Iran-backed militia behind attack on base in Syria’s Deir ez-Zor – SDF
QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – The Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) announced on Monday that an Iranian-backed militia was responsible for a drone attack on a U.S.-led Global Coalition base in the countryside of Deir ez-Zor, eastern Syria.
The SDF’s Media Center said in a statement that they confirmed after initial investigations that an Iranian-backed militia was behind the one-way UAV attack on the al-Omar Field in Deir ez-Zor.
Earlier, the SDF said six of their fighters were killed in the attack on an SDF training academy within the al-Omar Field.
The SDF added the suicide drone came from the direction of areas west of the Euphrates River, which are held by the Syrian government forces and Iranian-backed militias.
“The Iranian-backed militias used the Syrian regime-controlled areas in Deir Ezzor as a staging ground for the terrorist attack that targeted our Commando Academy and resulted in the martyrdom of six of our Commando fighters,” the statement read.
Earlier on Monday, MEHR News Agency reported that the Islamic Resistance in Iraq had conducted an attack on the base.
The Islamic Resistance in Iraq, a coalition of Iranian-backed militias, has been regularly attacking U.S. and Coalition bases in Syria and Iraq since the start of the Israel-Hamas war on Oct.7, 2023.
