Jordan denies participating in U.S. attacks on Iranian positions

DAMASCUS, Syria (North Press) – Jordan dismissedon Saturday reports that it had participated in the U.S. strikes on Iranian positions in Iraq which came in retaliation for an attack in Jordan that killed American troops.

An official in the Jordanian Armed Forces, cited by Jordanian News Agency (Petra), dismissed the reports, calling them “unfounded.”

On Friday, American forces hit “more than 85 targets, with numerous aircraft to include long-range bombers flown from United States. The airstrikes employed more than 125 precision munitions,” said the U.S. Central Command.

The strikes come in response to drone and rocket attacks that targeted the U.S. Tower 22 base in Jordan near the Syrian border late in January and killed three U.S. service members and injured over 40 others.

After the strikes, some reports indicated that F-16 fighter jets belonging to the Jordanian Air Force took part in the airstrikes conducted by the United States.

The Jordanian Armed Forces’ General Command also urged the public to disregard rumors spreading on social media and encouraged them to obtain information from verified sources.
