CENTCOM reveals downing 12 drones over Red Sea
DAMASCUS, Syria (North Press) – The U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) revealed on Saturday the downing of 12 drones belonging to Yemen’s Houthi rebels in the #Red_Sea and the Gulf of #Aden.
U.S. Central Command said in a statement that on Friday, at 10:30 AM, the American destroyer USS Carney ”shot down seven UAVs [unmanned aerial vehicle] over the Red Sea,” adding that no injuries or damage were reported.
Later at 4:40 PM, the statement added, CENTCOM forces carried out “strikes against four Houthi UAVs that were prepared to launch.”
“The U.S. Navy ships in the region. U.S. forces subsequently struck and destroyed the UAVs in self-defense,” CENTCOM further commented.
Approximately five hours later, “The Dwight D. Eisenhower Carrier Strike Group engaged and shot down seven UAVs over the Red Sea,” the statement continued, noting that no injuries or damages were reported.
International commercial vessels have been at risk of attacks by the Iran-backed Houthi rebels since the outbreak of the war between Israel and Hamas in October 2023. The group carries out near-daily attacks on these ships, posing a threat to global trade as a whole.
