U.S. retaliates, strikes Iranian-backed sites in Syria, Iraq – Biden

QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – U.S. President stated on Friday American forces targeted facilities of militias backed by Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps (IRGC) in Syria and Iraq in retaliation for the killing of  three soldiers in Jordan.

Joe Biden said in a statement, “At my direction, U.S. military forces struck targets at facilities in Iraq and Syria that the IRGC and affiliated militia use to attack U.S. forces.”

Late on Friday, North Press correspondent reported that U.S. airstrikes launched in Deir ez-Zor Governorate, eastern Syria, killed at least six individuals, including three Iraqis.

Biden pointed out the United States does not want conflict in the Middle East or anywhere else, but warned,” If you harm an American, we will respond.”

He added that this is the beginning and there will be additional responses at times and places of their choosing.

Meanwhile, U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) said their forces targeted more than 85 targets “with numerous aircraft to include long-range bombers flown from United States. The airstrikes employed more than 125 precision munitions.”

The targeted facilities included command and control operations centers, intelligence centers, rockets, and missiles, and unmanned aerial vehicle storages, and logistics and munition supply chain facilities of Iranian-backed militias that facilitated attacks on U.S. and Global Coalition troops.

On the other hand, Iranian officials warned that Tehran would respond decisively to any attack on its territory, its interests, or Iranian nationals outside its borders.
