Iran-backed group suspends attacks on U.S. sites in Syria, Iraq

DAMASCUS, Syria (North Press) – The Islamic Resistance in Iraq, a coalition of Iran-backed militias, announced on Tuesday the suspension of all its military and security operations against U.S. bases in Syria and Iraq.

In a statement, the Islamic Resistance announced the suspension of its military and security operations against U.S. forces as a means to avoid consequences on the Iraqi government.

On Jan. 28, the Islamic Resistance in Iraq claimed responsibility for the attack on a U.S. base in Jordan near the Syrian border, which resulted in the killing of three American soldiers and the injury of 34 others.

Since the Israel-Hamas war started in October 2023, American bases in Syria and Iraq have been targeted by Iran-backed militias, and almost all of these attacks have been claimed by the Islamic Resistance in Iraq.

The group requested its members to only engage in defensive actions if its sites were attacked by U.S. forces.
