Exclusive: IRGC relocates positions in Syria’s Deir ez-Zor to Homs
DEIR EZ-ZOR, Syria (North Press) – An exclusive source in Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) told North Press on Monday that the IRGC has evacuated most of its posts and militias in Deir ez-Zor Governorate, eastern Syria, as well as some of its positions in Homs Governorate, in central Syria.
The source added that the IRGC positions in the areas of al-Haidariyah, al-Shibli, al-Mazari’ in the desert of the town of al-Mayadin, eastern Deir ez-Zor, and the security office on al-Arbaeen Street in the town have been evacuated.
Furthermore, the 47th Regiment, located on the outskirts of the town of Abu Kamal in eastern Deir ez-Zor, the 137th Brigade near the Deir ez-Zor military airport, the 313th Unit near al-Bu’om roundabout near al-Mayadin, and a post belonging to the Iranian-backed Liwa Fatemiyoun militia in the former Faculty of Education on Port Said Street in Deir ez-Zor, have also been evacuated.
Earlier, Iranian-backed militias evacuated several posts in Deir ez-Zor and relocated them in areas in rural Homs. This move was made in anticipation of potential retaliatory airstrikes by the United States following the attack on the American base in northeastern Jordan on Sunday, which resulted in the death and injury of approximately 40 American soldiers.
The source clarified that IRGC has also evacuated its position in Shayrat Airbase in the Homs desert, noting that the IRGC has left only a few security members in all the positions they evacuated.
