Asayish arrest 29 ISIS members in Syria’s Hawl Camp
RAQQA, Syria (North Press) – The Internal Security Forces of North and East Syria (Asayish) arrest 29 affiliates of the Islamic State (ISIS), eight on Monday and 21 on Sunday, as part of an anti-ISIS campaign in Hawl Camp, east of the city of Hasakah, northeastern Syria.
On Jan. 27, Asayish and the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) launched a security campaign in Hawl camp, dubbed Humanity and Security, with the participation of the U.S.-led Global Coalition.
The operation, which represents the third phase in the campaign, came after they gathered information indicating ISIS’ intention to mobilize its cells and carry out attacks in the camp, said a statement issued by Asayish.
In the first phase of the security campaign, launched in March 2021, 125 ISIS operatives were captured, including 20 leaders.
In the second phase, launched in August 2022, 226 members of the organization’s cells were arrested, including 36 women involved in murder and terrorism crimes. In addition, 25 tunnels and trenches were uncovered, and weapons and ammunition were seized.
Asayish added that the forces discovered four hidden mines and two trenches in the Annex, a part of the camp which houses foreign ISIS women and children.
