6 ISIS suspects killed in Syria’s Daraa

DARAA, Syria (North Press) – Six members, suspected to be in contact with the Islamic State group (ISIS), were killed on Sunday after they clashed with local militants in Daraa Governorate in southern Syria.

Local sources told North Press that clashes erupted between ISIS suspects and local armed groups in the city of Nawa in the west of Daraa. The clashes started after the local groups raided a house in the city where a group suspected to be of ISIS affiliation were holed up in.

During the clashes, Osama Shehada al-Azizi, an emir of ISIS, and Awad Oweid al-Shebli, a member of the group, were killed, according to the sources.

Also, Muhammad Ahmad al-Shara’, a militant of the local groups was killed, and three others were wounded.

Other local sources noted that ISIS tries to deploy its cells in Daraa amid frequent clashes with local armed groups every now and then. However, Syrian government forces never intervene at all.

In November 2022, ISIS prominent leader Abu al-Hassan al-Hashimi al-Qurashi was killed by local gunmen in the city of Jassem in the northern countryside of Daraa.
