SDF proceeds with security operation in Hawl Camp in NE Syria
RAQQA, Syria (North Press) – The Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) announced on Saturday the continuation of a security operation in Hawl Camp in the countryside of Hasakah, northeastern Syria.
The SDF’s Media Center announced the initiation of the third phase of Operation Humanity and Security in Hawl Camp to pursue sleeper cells of the Islamic State (ISIS).
This came after the SDF obtained confessions from ISIS operatives captured in the past that the group is planning an attack on the Hawl Camp from outside in cooperation with sleepers cells present inside the camp.
According to the statement, the operation aims at “pursuing ISIS terrorist cells, eliminating their strongholds, and capturing individuals and collaborators involved in terrorist activities, attacks and spreading extremist ideologies, especially among children.”
The SDF said the operation will be conducted with the participation of the Internal Security Forces of the North and East Syria (Asayish), supported by the U.S.-led Global Coalition to defeat ISIS.
The Asayish have previously carried out the first and second phases of Operation Humanity and Security back in 2021 and 2022, where they detained many suspects operating with ISIS, and confiscated quantities of weapons.
