Unidentified drone targets gas field in northern Iraq

DAMASCUS, Syria (North Press) – An explosive drone targeted the Khor Mor gas field in the Sulaymaniyah Governorate in northern Iraq on Thursday night, resulting in material damage, according to sources cited by Reuters.

Iraq, a rare ally of both Iran and the U.S., has seen increasing back-and-forth attacks between Iran-backed militias and U.S. forces since the Gaza war in October 2023.

On Thursday, the Counter-Terrorism Service in the Kurdistan Region in Iraq announced that the air defenses had shot down an explosive-laden drone targeting U.S. forces at a base near Erbil International Airport.

Pearl Petroleum, a consortium which operates the gas field, has not yet commented on the incident.
