ISIS attack leaves causalities in Syria’s Homs

DEIR EZ-ZOR, Syria (North Press) –Three militants of the Iranian-backed militias are killed and others of the Syrian government forces are injured in a violent attack carried out late on Tuesday by the sleeper cells of the Islamic State (ISIS) in the eastern desert of Homs Governorate, central Syria.

A source from the Syrian government forces told North Press that ISIS militants attacked several sites of the Iranian-backed militias and government forces with machine guns and rocket shells in the desert of Palmyra, east of Homs.

The source added that the clashes lasted for hours, resulting in the killing of three militants of the Iranian-backed militias and the injury of nine soldiers of the government forces.

The source said that the attackers fled towards the Syrian Desert, while the government’s warplanes launched airstrikes on sites in the desert, according to the source.

Despite frequent security operations, ISIS remains heavily present in the Syrian Desert and occasionally claims responsibility for attacks against the government forces.

On Jan.19, ISIS carried out an attack on posts of the Syrian government forces and their affiliated National Defense Forces (NDF) in Homs, resulting in casualties.
