ISIS kills, injures government soldiers in Syria’s Homs
DEIR EZ-ZOR, Syria (North Press) – Sleeper cells of the Islamic State (ISIS) carried out on Friday an attack on posts of the Syrian government forces and their affiliated National Defense Forces (NDF) in Homs Governorate, central Syria, resulting in casualties.
A military source in the government forces told North Press that ISIS cells launched “a fierce attack” on the government forces and the NDF near the Tiyas Military Airbase, also known as the T-4 Airbase and the T3 station in the Palmyra desert in eastern Homs.
The clashes between the government forces and ISIS militants lasted until the early hours of Saturday. The source added that ISIS militants then fled towards the Syrian Desert.
The clashes resulted in the killing of one NDF militant and a government soldier, and the injury of six others who were transferred to the Military Hospital in Palmyra, according to the source.
Despite frequent security operations, ISIS remains heavily present in the Syrian Desert and occasionally claims responsibility for attacks against the government forces.
On Jan, 16, about 20 soldiers of the government forces were killed and injured in an attack carried out by ISIS, targeting posts of the government forces in the eastern countryside of Deir ez-Zor Governorate, eastern Syria.
