Air raids likely by Jordan rock sites in Syria’s Suwayda

SUWAYDA, Syria (North Press) – Air raids, likely by Jordan, targeted on Thursday at dawn the countryside of Suwayda, southern Syria, killing over 10 people.

A source in the Suwayda Fire Department told North Press that the Jordanian Air Force launched airstrikes on the villages of Urman and Malah in the southeast of the city of Suwayda. The strikes destroyed five houses and killed 13 people, including women and children.

Jordanian air raids have hit houses and sites in the countryside of Dara and Suwayda before, where sources in Jordan said they targeted individuals suspected of drug trafficking. The previous airstrikes also resulted in casualties.

Two new airstrikes targeted the house of Omar Talab in Urman and other strikes targeted the house of Turki al-Halabi in Malah.

Both houses, in addition to surrounding houses, were destroyed in the airstrikes. The Civil Defense and firefighter teams rushed to the scene of the attacks to search for survivors and recover the bodies of the victims.

On Jan. 9, Reuters reported that Jordanian aircraft carried out four airstrikes against suspected Iranian-backed drug smugglers in Suwayda.
