U.S. intends to deploy 1500 troops to Syria and Iraq – CBS Philadelphia

QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – The U.S. is sending more American troops to the Middle East to join the fight against the Islamic State (ISIS) in Syria and Iraq, CBS Philadelphia reported on Sunday.

The U.S. intends to deploy 1500 soldiers from New Jersey to the Middle East as part of Operation Inherent Resolve (OIR) to defeat ISIS.

Only 2,500 U.S. troops have remained in Iraq since 2021, merely in an advisory role, whereas there are 900 soldiers in Syria focused on fighting ISIS.

This batch of troops will be the largest deployment of New Jersey Army National Guard soldiers since 2008.

OIR is the U.S. military’s operational name for the international military coalition’s intervention against ISIS in Iraq and Syria, which started in August 2016.
