ISIS attacks SDF posts in Syria’s Deir ez-Zor
DEIR EZ-ZOR, Syria (North Press) – Unknown gunmen attacked early on Thursday military checkpoints of the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) in multiple towns in the countryside of Deir ez-Zor, eastern Syria.
An SDF military source in Deir ez-Zor said that unidentified gunmen attacked, with rockets and machineguns, the headquarters of SDF’s Hawaij Regiment in the town of Hawaij in the east of Deir ez-Zor. Consequently, fierce clashes erupted, forcing the attackers to withdraw. The clashes caused only material damage.
The source added that other armed individuals attacked an SDF post in the Hawi al-Hissan area in the north of Deir ez-Zor, without causing any casualties.
In another attack, unknown gunmen targeted two SDF checkpoints in the town of Diban in the eastern countryside of Deir ez-Zor. The gunmen used RPGs and machineguns to attack, causing only material damage.
Later, the ISIS-linked Amaq news agency said in statements that militants of the Islamic State (ISIS) conducted the attacks and claimed to have resulted in several SDF casualties.
An SDF military source, however, confirmed to North Press that the attacks resulted in no casualties or injuries, and the damage was limited to material losses only.
Unidentified gunmen, most likely affiliated with the Syrian government and ISIS, constantly attack SDF checkpoints and personnel in the countryside of Deir ez-Zor.
