US forces in Syria, Iraq targeted 127 times since Oct.17, 2023 – Pentagon
QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – The U.S. Department of Defense announced on Wednesday that American troops and bases in Syria and Iraq have been attacked 127 times since Oct. 17, 2023.
Pentagon Press Secretary Brig. Gen. Pat Ryder said in a press briefing that 75 attacks occurred against U.S. bases in Syria, while their bases in Iraq were attacked 52 times during that period.
Ryder added that since Jan. 4, nine attacks have been carried out against U.S. bases in both Syria and Iraq.
Since the outbreak of the Israel-Hamas war on Oct. 7, 2023, the so-called Islamic Resistance in Iraq, a coalition of Iranian-backed militias, has stepped up its attacks against U.S. bases in Syria and Iraq as it claims responsibility for regular attacks.
On Jan. 7, media outlets linked to the Islamic Resistance in Iraq said it targeted the Qasrok U.S. base in the countryside of Hasakah, northeastern Syria.
