SDF kills ISIS leader in Syria’s Deir ez-Zor

DEIR EZ-ZOR, Syria (North Press) – The Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) announced on Monday that its Anti-Terrorism Units (YAT), backed by the U.S.-led Global Coalition, arrested a day earlier a leader of the Islamic State (ISIS) in a security operation in a village in eastern Deir ez-Zor Governorate, eastern Syria.

In a statement published on its official website, the SDF stated that YAT and Coalition forces conducted, on Sunday, a joint security operation in the village of al-Jarzi in eastern Deir ez-Zor, “targeting an ISIS senior terrorist called Muhammed Atiyah.” 

The SDF added, “Backed by the coalition’s aerial support, our YAT units raided where the terrorist Abu Mahmoud was hiding… and called him for safe surrender, yet the terrorist Abu Mahmoud clashed with our forces, adamantly refusing to surrender.  Our forces dealt with the situation professionally and successfully eliminated him.”

SDF further added, “During the operation, weapons, ammunition, and military equipment were seized. The items confiscated include smartphones /4/, Ak-47 rifles /1/, Ak-47 magazines /8/, grenades /1/, quantity of Ak-47 ammunition, surveillance cameras /1/, and various documents and personal identification papers.”
