Iran militias attack town in NE Syria 3 times in one day
QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – The town of Shaddadi in Hasakah Governorate, northeastern Syria, was attacked three times on Monday, a source from the US-led Global Coalition to Defeat ISIS told North Press.
The attacks resulted in no casualties, the source said, adding that such attacks are usually launched by Iranian-backed militias.
He confirmed that Iran is trying to escalate the situation in Syria.
On Sunday, the so-called Islamic Resistance in Iraq, a coalition of Iranian-backed militias, claimed an attack on Qasrok U.S. base in the countryside of Hasakah.
On Jan. 6, the group also claimed responsibility for an attack against a military base of the U.S. forces in Shaddadi and another in al-Tanf garrison on the Syrian-Iraqi border.
The Islamic Resistance has escalated its attacks on U.S. and Global Coalition bases in Syria and Iraq in response to the killing of senior Iranian-backed leaders in Iraq. Also, the escalation has increased since the outbreak of Israel-Hamas war.
