IRGC sends military supplies to eastern Syria

DEIR EZ-ZOR, Syria (North Press) – Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) transferred on Friday military equipment, including drones and rockets, to eastern Syria, amid growing attacks against U.S. bases in the region.

A leader in a local Iran-backed militia told North Press that the IRGC and its affiliated militias have transferred military supplies, coming from Iraq, from Shayrat Airbase in the countryside of Homs Governorate, in central Syria, to the town of al-Mayadin in the eastern countryside of Deir ez-Zor Governorate, eastern Syria.

He added that the reinforcements included a large number of Iranian-made drones, short-range rockets of the Fajr-1 and Fajr-2 models, and a modern communication system consisting of several wireless devices and thermal surveillance cameras. An Iranian expert team also accompanied the shipment to install the system.

On Jan. 4, a U.S. airstrike killed a leader of an Iran-backed militia in Baghdad, with the Pentagon claiming that he was responsible for attacks on U.S. bases in Syria and Iraq.

The source added to North Press indicated that the reinforcements were transported via trucks and four-wheel-drive vehicles to al-Mayadin, where they were sorted and distributed to warehouses under the supervision of Haj Amer, a supply officer in the IRGC. The officer ordered increased security at the aforementioned points in the town.

The team began installing the communication system, while the IRGC kept the reinforcements within residential neighborhoods.

Further reinforcements are expected to arrive from Deir ez-Zor to be stored in al-Shabli area, a highland that overlooks the eastern side of the Euphrates River, where U.S. bases are located.
