Jordan airstrikes hit suspected drug warehouses in Syria

DAMASCUS, Syria (North Press) – Jordan launched on Thursday night airstrikes on farms and houses suspected to be used for drug smuggling in Suwayda Governorate in southern Syria. 

An eyewitness told North Press that three explosions were heard and smoke plumes were seen in the southern countryside of Suwayda on the border with Jordan. 

He added that the warplanes raided houses between the town of al-Ghariyah and the village of Umm Rumman on the Jordanian border, indicating that they were likely used for storing drugs to be smuggled to Jordan later. 

The eyewitness pointed out that Hamoud al-Aqel, 50, was killed in the airstrikes. 

An exclusive source said the airstrikes hit the house of Ahd Ramthan in the village of Shi’ab, southeast of Suwayda, causing material damage to the house.   

The Syrian government has yet to comment on the incident. 

In December 2023, Jordanian army announced they seized 537,000 captagon pills and 188 palm-
