AANES reveals number of casualties due to Turkish attacks on NE Syria
RAQQA, Syria (North Press) – The Health Board of the Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria (AANES) said that eight civilians were killed and dozens were injured in the recent Turkish bombardment on north and northeast Syria.
On Dec. 23, as part of Turkey’s brutal attacks on the region, Turkish bombardment destroyed an oxygen tank factory and a kidney dialysis center in the city of Qamishli, northeastern Syria. It also destroyed a clinic in the city of Kobani, northern Syria.
The dialysis center, the only one in Qamishli, used to help 100 patients with almost 250 sessions weekly. The clinic in Kobani used to provide healthcare services to over 400 patients.
The board stressed the importance of neutralizing healthcare institutions from military operations in accordance with international law.
According to Article 8 of the Rome Statute of the International Criminal Court of 1998, intentionally directing attacks against civilians and hospitals is considered a war crime, unless there is evidence that they are military objectives.
The board further called on the international community to condemn the Turkish aggression and support humanitarian efforts.
