Government forces seize drugs on Syria’s border with Jordan
RAQQA, Syria (North Press) – Syrian security forces seized on Wednesday night quantities of drugs and arrested three drug smugglers on the border with Jordan.
A security source told Syria’s state-run news agency SANA that security authorities seized 200,000 captagon pills and 210 palm-sized sheets of Hashish during a smuggling attempt on the Syrian-Jordanian border.
The source added that security authorities managed to arrest three of the smugglers.
The border between Syria and Jordan witnesses a constant state of alert and intensive surveillance operations conducted by the Jordanian army and border guards to stop drug smuggling.
Jordan announced a security operation against drug smugglers on Wednesday night, which led to the arrest of 33 suspects, including four considered highly dangerous, according to a statement by the Jordanian Public Security Directorate.
The statement added that security force seized quantities of drugs (narcotic pills and crystal meth), 30 firearms, a drone, communication devices, binoculars, forged vehicle plates, and vehicles used in drug smuggling and transportation.
The Syrian-Jordanian border witnessed an escalation in drug smuggling operations that evolved into fierce clashes. Meanwhile, Jordan accuses Iran of threatening its national security by supporting smuggling operations through its militias close to the border.
