Unknown gunmen target several SDF checkpoints in Syria’s Deir ez-Zor

DEIR EZ-ZOR, Syria (North Press) – Unknown armed individuals attacked on Tuesday night checkpoints and headquarters of the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) in the eastern countryside of Deir ez-Zor, eastern Syria.

A military source from the SDF in Deir ez-Zor said unknown gunmen launched a machine gun attack on an SDF headquarters in a neighborhood in the town of Gharanij, east of Deir ez-Zor.

The attack resulted in intense clashes in which two SDF fighters were injured.

Another armed group attacked an SDF headquarters in the town of Tayyana in the eastern countryside of Deir ez-Zor, without reporting any casualties, the source added.

In the town of Susah, in the eastern countryside of Deir ez-Zor, unidentified gunmen attacked an SDF military checkpoint on the banks of the Euphrates River with machine guns.

The attackers were forced to flee after the arrival of a supporting patrol of the SDF.

Deir ez-Zor witnesses tensions and chaos coinciding with an escalation by Turkey in northern Syria and the targeting of U.S. bases by Iranian-backed militias.
