Turkish attacks leave Syria’s Qamishli without dialysis center

QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – The Health Committee of the Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria (AANES) in the city of Qamishli, northeastern Syria, reported that the kidney dialysis center and an oxygen tank factory in the city have been knocked out of service due to Turkish attacks.

On Monday, Turkey targeted several vital facilities in northern Syria, including the kidney dialysis center and the USAID-supported oxygen tank factory in Qamishli. The Turkish bombardment also hit the Mashta al-Nour clinic in the city of Kobani, which is supported by Médecins du Monde (MDM) Organization.

Maather Abbas, Co-chair of Health Committee in Hasakah Governorate, told North Press, “Due to the recent Turkish attacks in the past two days, a number of facilities in the city of Qamishli have suffered severe damage. These include a kidney dialysis center and an oxygen tank factory, both of which are affiliated with the Health Committee.”

Abbas added to North Press that the kidney dialysis center, which used to receive 60 to 70 patients daily, was the only one in Qamishli. “As for the factory, it used to meet the oxygen needs of most hospitals in Qamishli.”

“The closure of the center poses challenges for kidney patients who relied on the targeted center to undergo dialysis. They will now be forced to travel to other Syrian cities to undergo the procedure,” she noted.

Abbas highlighted that “there are currently no alternative centers capable of offering the services provided by these facilities.”

She said they cannot estimate the cost of losses in both facilities since they were established by international NGOs.
