Turkish bombing in NE Syria causes major power blackout – Official
QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – An official in the Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria (AANES) said on Sunday that the Turkish bombing in northeastern Syria caused a complete power outage in 2,600 villages, nine towns, and the city of Qamishli, northeastern Syria.
The AANES has appealed to the United Nations to closely monitor Turkey’s unjustified attacks on its facilities, especially in light of the already dire conditions in Syria.
Akram Suleiman, the co-chair of the Energy Office of the AANES, stated that key stations providing electricity to over half of Hasakah Governorate have been knocked out of service due to the Turkish bombing. These include the Derik substation, Tirbe Spiye (al-Qahtaniya) substation, al-Ya’rubiyah (Tel Kocher) substation, Tel Hamis substation, Tel Alo substation, the substation in northern Qamishli, the substation in southern Qamishli, Amuda substation, and Derbasiyah substation.
These plants had been targeted before between Oct. 5-9 by similar strikes, and the AANES announced that certain parts of these stations cannot be repaired due to lack of spare parts.
Attacking vital infrastructure constitutes “a war crime” against the Syrian people, the official said.
