AANES urges UN to investigate Turkish attacks on facilities in NE Syria

RAQQA, Syria (North Press) – The Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria (AANES) called on the UN on Sunday to monitor and investigate “unjustified” Turkish airstrikes on service facilities in Northeast Syria.

The AANES urged in a statement all parties seeking to achieve stability to deter Turkish attacks on Northeast Syria.

Moreover, the AANES called on the UN and international organizations to conduct an investigation and form fact finding committees to monitor and document Turkish attacks.

The statement added that the Turkish attacks have negative repercussions, not only on Northeast Syria but on all Syria, adding they undermine counter-terrorism efforts and further escalate the Syrian crisis on all levels.

The AANES expressed its rejection of the attacks as they worsen economic and living condition, and give terrorist organizations, such as the Islamic State (ISIS), a chance to regroup and reorganize.

On Saturday night, Turkish warplanes carried out several airstrikes targeting infrastructure and oil facilities in the countryside of the cities of Qamishli and Derik, northeastern Syria.
