North Press team completes training course provided by CNN Academy

QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – North Press News Agency team has successfully completed a 12-week training course at the CNN Academy, which included workshops on journalistic skills in news reporting, storytelling, newsroom management, visual journalism, and social media.

The participants learnt CNN’s best practices and interact with the network’s top correspondents and producers, according to CNN Academy’s Senior Trainer Luke Henderson, a former Supervising Producer for CNN International in Atlanta, U.S.

CNN Academy is a special initiative designed to empower and upskill the next generation of journalists.

“Our CNN Academy Erbil course runs twice a year in partnership with Erbil Media City,” Henderson said.

The course was attended by six editors from various departments at North Press, and 13 trainees from Iraq and the Kurdistan Region of Iraq (KRI). Over the course, they participated in lectures delivered by senior editors and correspondents from CNN’s main media center in Atlanta.

The winning pieces were selected on the final day which culminated with the handing out of certificates for each participant who had successfully completed the course.

The course concluded with a one-week mobile journalism training program conducted by MoJo expert, Glen Mulcahy. The trainees were tasked with shooting and editing television news reports using only mobile phones.

Among four winning stories in the competition held at the end of the course, two stories submitted by North Press were awarded.
