Joint Russian-Syrian maneuvers at Kuweires airbase in Syria’s Aleppo
ALEPPO, Syria (North Press) – The Russian and Syrian forces are preparing to conduct joint maneuvers in the coming days at the Kuweires airbase in east of the city of Aleppo, northwestern Syria.
During the past 48 hours, there has been active air traffic at the Kuweires airport. Military equipment, weapons, and ammunition were brought to the airbase, a security source in the Syrian government forces in Aleppo told North Press.
The source added that the Russian and Syrian military commands are preparing to conduct a joint combat exercises involving several combat units. These forces have conducted joint military maneuvers on several occasions and in different locations in previous years.
The Kuweires airport, located 50 kilometers east of the city of Aleppo, is under the authority of the Air Force Intelligence Branch and serves as an airbase for the 25th Special Mission Forces Division (Tiger Forces), commanded by Major General Suheil al-Hassan.
The airbase is run by Russian officers and does not include any Iranian presence. The closest Iranian positions to the base are in the towns of Safirah, Dayr Hafir, and Khanaser.
The upcoming maneuvers, which are set to take place at Lake Jabbul, situated south of the airport, will include parachute drops and the utilization of live ammunition.
The goal, the source said, is to prepare the participating forces to effectively operate advanced weapons soon, adding that he expects preparations to be completed in days.
