Jordan fights drug traffickers on behalf of entire region – diplomat

QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – Jordan is waging a war on behalf of the region against drug-trafficking groups that aim to transport drugs to Jordan and Gulf countries, a Jordanian official said on Monday.

The Jordanian Minister of Communications and Spokesperson, Muhannad al-Mubaidin, stated in an interview with CNN Arabic that attempts by smugglers to infiltrate as groups have surged “aiming to engage in smuggling, attack Jordan and contaminate its society.”

The Syrian-Jordanian border was inflamed until Monday noon, and the Jordanian Army reported that intense clashes took place between the Jordanian border guards and armed smugglers, who are linked to Iranian-backed militias, on the northern border of Jordan.

These clashes prevented the smuggling of large amounts of drugs and weapons, according to Jordanian Army.

The spokesperson warned of the dangers of narcotics on the social security and peace, “This war is ongoing and Jordan is fighting it on behalf of the entire region.”
