Government plots killing of tribe leaders in Syria’s Deir ez-Zor- Source

DEIR EZ-ZOR, Syria (North Press) – The Syrian government, in coordination with Iran, is planning a series of assassinations in Deir ez-Zor Governorate, eastern Syria, to target some leaders of Arab tribes in the western bank of the Euphrates River, a security source said on Monday.

The source told North Press that the reason behind these assassinations is that these individuals are not loyal to Iran in areas under its control, suggesting they would hinder Iran’s goals and projects in Deir ez-Zor.

The informed source said that a cable was sent to senior security officers in Deir ez-Zor to inform them of the details and to attribute these assassinations to the Islamic State (ISIS).

On Sunday, a security source told North Press that the government sent an urgent “top secret” cable to senior security officers in Deir ez-Zor to ready 100 soldiers to target troops of the U.S.-led Global Coalition and posts of the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) in the countryside of Deir ez-Zor.
