Asayish seize truck smuggling drugs in Syria’s Qamishli
QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – The Internal Security Forces of North and East Syria (Asayish) announced on Sunday the seizure of a truck in the city of Qamishli, northeastern Syria, containing 37 kilograms of marijuana, coming from government-controlled areas on Dec. 11.
The Asayish stated in a statement that they had obtained information about an individual intending to bring drugs through a fuel transport truck from areas controlled by the government forces.
The statement added that the Asayish set up an ambush at the western entrance of the city. A specialized team from the Anti-Drug Units, affiliated with the Asayish, assisted by sniffer dogs, conducted a thorough inspection of the suspected truck and found the drugs in a hidden compartment constructed and placed above fuel discharge pipes, according to the statement.
The Asayish reported that the driver confessed to coming from government-controlled areas and intending to sell the drugs in northeastern Syria. He was subsequently handed over, along with the confiscated items, to the judicial authorities for further proceedings.
