Turkish intelligence arrests 9 people in Syria’s Sere Kaniye
SERE KANIYE, Syria (North Press) – Turkish intelligence arrested nine civilians in the city of Sere Kaniye (Ras al-Ain), northeastern Syria, under the pretext of promoting the Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria (AANES) and inciting against the Turkish state.
A source from the Turkish-backed Military Police told North Press that the Turkish intelligence, in collaboration with the Military Police, cordoned off the arrestees’ houses.
The source added that among the detainees are 16-year-old Osama Saloum, and 31-year-old woman Zahida Saloum. “They were subsequently taken to the Counter-Terrorism Center in Sere Kaniye.”
The source further stated that the charges include inciting against the Turkish state and promoting the AANES, which Turkey considers an offshoot of the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK).
The detainees will be transferred tomorrow to Turkey for further investigation due to Turkish national security concerns, according to the Military Police official.
Turkish intelligence has increased raids and arrests on terrorism charges. Furthermore, there has been a change in their previous approach of placing individuals in prisons within Turkey’s controlled areas in Syria. Instead, the detainees are now directly transported to Turkey.
Three similar operations occurred in Sere Kaniye in December, with detainees transferred to prisons in Urfa, southern Turkey.
