CENTCOM commander visits U.S. troops in Syria, Iraq

QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – On Dec. 13-14, General Michael Erik Kurilla, U.S. Central Command Commander, traveled to Syria and Iraq to meet with key leaders, partner forces, and U.S. Service Members.

Kurilla traveled to multiple bases in Syria to meet with key leaders of the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) and Service Members, the Centcom said on X.

The goal of the visit is to gain an overall assessment of progress on the defeat Islamic State (ISIS) mission.

While in Iraq, Kurilla met with the Iraqi Prime Minister, Mohammed Shia’ Al Sudani; Chief of the General Staff, General Abdel Emir Yarallah; Joint Operations Command – Iraq Commander, Staff General Qais Khalaf Rahimah Al-Muhammadawi; and the U.S. Embassy team.

He also traveled to al-Assad Air Base and Erbil Airfield where he visited with Combined Joint Task Force – Operation Inherent Resolve (CJTF-OIR) leaders and Service Members to receive an operational update and assess the current security situation.
